Jumping a massive 277.5 foot (84.4m), California’s Trigger Gumm set a new world record tonight (Saturday May 14 ) for the longest outright distance jumped on a motorbike, clocking the world mark at the Crusty Demons Night of World Records at Ipswich’s Queensland Raceway (Australia).

Riding a Honda CR500, the 37 year old operating engineer from Orange County, left the kicker (ramp) at more than 85mph (140kph), flew as high as 80 foot and landed 277.5 foot (84.4m)on the 10 000 tonne mound of dirt.

In perfectly still conditions and in front of 25 000 screaming fans, it was the longest distance ever jumped on a motorbike, and will put Trigger Gumm in the Guinness World Book of Records. The previous official record was 253’ set by Jason Rennie from the UK in July 2000.

The jump was Trigger’s fourth and final attempt of the night in what was a world record long distance showdown between Trigger and his training friend and fellow Californian, Larry Linkogle.

Linkogle jumped four jumps, his best a 255.4 foot distance on his KTM 250. He could not better Trigger’s mark for the longest outright distance – but finished the night a happy man, knowing he had clocked the furthest distance ever traveled on a 250 cc bike.

With six new world records set tonight, the Crusty show was the greatest extreme event ever staged.

Australia’s Robbie Maddison (Kiama) set the world record for the longest trick on a bike traveling 246 foot with a Superman Seat Grab.

Maddison followed it up with a new world record for the longest distance on a 125cc bike with a 221 foot distance.

Toowoomba’s Jamie Barkla jumped his QUAD bike 149’ to set a new mark for the longest distance, eclipsing the previous record of 134’ held by the UK’s Matt Coulter.

Earlier today, Penrith’s Clint Debner kicked off the action with the longest distance ever jumped on a Pro Mini Bike, with an 86.4’ distance.

The Crusty Demons Night of World Records was overseen by officials from the Guinness Book of Records, with all six attempts being approved for Guinness inclusion.
