Mattia Pasini started from pole but it was Luthi, Kallio, Championship leader Bautista and Fabrizio Lai who were the breakaway front group early on in the 24 lap race. As the race entered its second half however Luthi started to leave them in his wake. Alvaro Bautista was having none of that though and responded with some fast laps to close right on Luthi's tail and by lap 18 was looking for a way past the Swiss rider. However a rash move on lap 19 saw him lose half a second on Luthi and fall back with Kallio. But it only took Bautista a couple of laps to again close on Luthi and the pair started swapping places to and fro for the lead in the last couple of laps. Bautista hit the front and looked certain for the win on the final lap but with only half a lap to run a machine problem caused him to put his hand up and surrender the lead, and then also had to hand over second place to Kallio and was then pushed off the podium by Lai. So only mechanical dramas spoiled Bautista's run of a podium at ever race this season. That earlier run
of fantastic form still means that Bautista still enjoys a very
healthy 21 point lead over Kallio in the race for the title. |
