50 year old Canadian executive, Cliff Randall, has a hankering for modifying bikes and we are going to be featuring a few of his creations here over the next couple of weeks.
This 1993 Kawasaki 1500 Super Vulcan is one of this favourites. The machine weighs in at 245 kilograms dry, makes 80 horsepower at the rear wheel with 98 ft/lbs of torque.
That horsepower figure is a huge improvement over the standard machine and a lot of work has gone in to getting it there.
Nigel Patrick, of Patrick Racing in California, forged the custom high-compression pistons. Mike Crompton of Competition Systems in Toronto did all the cylinder head modifications.
Getting an ignition system to reliably fire those two 750cc high-compression slugs proved quite a challenge. A Dyna ignition system was installed and the ignition suitably retarded. But further retardation was needed so Cliff had to reconfigure the coil pick-ups on the rotor to retard the ignition even further to prevent detonation.
The custom paint was carried out by Voodoo while the chrome work was sent to The Plating House.
All up, this hot-rod Kawasaki cost Cliff around $45,000. Just wait until you see the next one of his beasts…..
