2018 AMA Supercross – Round 12 – Indianapolis
Marvin Musquin had a great start to round 12 of the AMA Supercross Championship in Indianapolis as he captured the holeshot aboard his KTM 450 SX-F while championship points leader Jason Anderson got caught up in a turn one pile-up.
Eli Tomac was hot on the heels of Musquin throughout the first half of the race, but the KTM man maintained a solid pace out front.
Tomac then went down, giving Musquin some breathing room for the second half of the race.

“That was a rough one,” said Tomac. “I’m grateful I was able to recover from my crash tonight in order to salvage some points though. I fought hard to power back, but the track was so tacky I just wasn’t able to make up the gap in time. We’ve been through worse and I’ve got a great team behind me so we’ll take the week to shake it off and get back out there.”
After the 27 laps was done, Musquin ultimately finished 29-seconds ahead of second placed finisher, Dean Wilson.
Despite Anderson’s great charge back through the field to finish fourth, Musquin shaved seven points off Jason Anderson’s lead in the overall 450SX Championship as the series heads into its final five rounds of 2018.

“To be honest, I’ve been waiting for that win for a long time. The last win was at Anaheim I and I felt like I was riding better and better after I got used to the dislocated shoulder. I feel like I’m definitely capable of winning but you have to put everything together, and that’s not easy, but today it was good. We got the bike better this weekend and in the last practice I was riding really smooth and I was the fastest, so I was really happy. I knew I needed a good start and to race my own race and I was able to do that tonight, it’s good to be back on top.”

Hayden Mellross did not have a great night after going down hard in the whoops.

“Wasn’t the night we were looking for here in Indianapolis. The track was so rough and very easy to make mistakes. Unfortunately I got kicked hard in the whoops one lap and my bike got sideways. I managed to save it and not crash but dislocated my shoulder in the process. I’ll check up with my doctors on Monday and asses the situation. I’m sure it’s nothing more that a few days rest can’t fix.”
