Tom Toparis evaluating Supersport and Superbike double entry at Phillip Island

Round Six – Phillip Island

The penultimate round of the 2023 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) takes place this weekend at Phillip Island, where two-time SuperSport champion Tom Toparis, upon his return to Australia after a successful British SuperSport campaign, has confirmed he will not only be racing SuperSport, but will also head out in Superbike on a Stop & Seal Yamaha YZF-R1 alongside his previously announced YZF-R6 entry.

“It’s been a while since anyone has raced both classes at ASBK. It’s possible that I could do that this weekend. I always knew Robbie and Ben were building a Stop & Seal R1 alongside the R6, but it wasn’t really clear if that bike would be ready for this weekend. Even now, in race week, that bike hasn’t been ridden at a track, so realistically we have a lot of work o do to set the bike up, but I really want a chance to race in Superbike, and the bike is there, so if I feel good on the bike in practice, we’ll head out for Qualifying on Saturday. The goal this weekend is to do well on the 600, and if I can do as much riding and learning on the superbike, it’ll be a bonus, so we’ll see how the weekend unfolds!“

Stop & Seal’s Robbie Bolger

“It’s race week and I’m getting pretty excited to get to Phillip Island. It will be the first time that we hit the track as Stop & Seal racing thanks to 666 Racing, with a two-rider lineup and now in both SuperSport and Superbike! Hayden (Nelson) has put some time in on his new bike and looks good for a strong result, and I think Tom will fit right back into racing in the ASBK. Ben has been working hard to have all the bikes ready and I can’t wait to see Tom in particular head out on a Stop & Seal Superbike, even if only to get some laps in.”

“It’s been a big few weeks to get these additional bikes ready to go racing, so I’m hoping we get some better weather than MotoGP last weekend so we can see that work in action. Tom will ride the superbike through practice and see how he feels, but his focus this weekend is definitely on the 600. If he’s feeling confident on both bikes, he’ll race both classes.”
