2016 Suzuki SV650
For 2016, Suzuki Motorcycles Australia reintroduces the SV650 the “Original V-twin fun machine”. First unveiled at EICMA 2015, the all-new SV650 will headline the Suzuki stand at the Sydney Motorcycle Show held at Sydney Olympic Park in Homebush this weekend, November 20-22.
The “SV” designation in the SV650 stands for many things: Sporty V-twin, Superior Value, Simple and Versatile. Quite simply is a concept that you actually experience rather than try to define. Loaded with capabilities and exuding personality, daily commutes or weekend excursions on winding roads are an easy and unforgettable ride. The SV650’s light weight and ultra-slim profile give you the confidence to take to the road.
Today’s 600-660cc learner motorcycle market is mostly powered by parallel twins or inline four-cylinder engines. Suzuki believes its unique 645cc V-twin offers the best engine character for this type of segment thanks to the linear power it delivers throughout the rev range.
The 645cc 90° DOHC liquid-cooled V-twin engine has been refined with over 60 redesigned parts and components. Designed to deliver strong torque in the low-to-mid rpm range and better fuel economy whilst still running smoothly in high rpm making this engine extremely versatile for a wide range of riding conditions.
The engineers didn’t just stop at the powerplant though with more than 70 new parts and components built into the new chassis all designed to achieve a lighter mass and slimmer body work.
The newly designed trellis frame is constructed of lightweight steel material allowing an overall slimmed down appearance while proudly emphasising the beauty of the robust V-twin engine.
Achieving a slim body isn’t only about the motorcycle’s seat height. The SV650’s streamlined profile is the result of ergonomically shaped side covers and optimised seat design, which lets the rider straddle the motorcycle with their feet comfortably on the ground while stopped and the ability to easily lean into and navigate corners while riding. At its widest point the fuel tank has been reduced by 64.5mm.
Measuring in with the lowest seat height in class at 785mm high, the narrow, streamlined seat is designed to be nearly flat from front to back, giving riders a superior degree of visibility and grip in the upright position. In addition, a luggage loop is available for securing cargo.
Large 290mm dual front disc brakes with ABS and 240mm rear brake disc provide incredible stopping performance and control. Compact and lightweight, the SV650 introduces state-of-the-art ABS technology manufactured by Nissin, thus making it possible to further reduce vehicle weight without sacrificing performance.
The new SV650 is also packed full of the latest Suzuki technology. Such as the new Low RPM Assist function which raises engine rpm in launching or low rpm riding conditions via the ECM activating the ISC system. The Low RPM Assist system helps the rider achieve a smoother take-off and makes low speed riding such as through traffic or stop-start scenarios easier.
The SV650 is also equipped with Suzuki’s Easy Start System, firstly introduced on the GSX-S1000 the system engages the starter motor at a precisely timed preset interval to start the motorcycle with just a push of a button.
The 2016 SV650 will be available in Australia in Learner Approved specification mid 2016 with Suzuki announcing pricing details and full specifications closer to launch.
