Ryan Dungey Shifts into Points Lead Heading into Final Anaheim Race
Cooper Webb Races for Third Consecutive Win
As Monster Energy AMA Supercross returns to Angel Stadium for the final time this season this Saturday night, reigning 450SX Class Champion Ryan Dungey sets his sights on a fourth win in Anaheim. Dungey is fresh off his first win of the 2016 season in which he took control of the points lead. While Chad Reed is set to make his 188th start in 450SX, tying Larry Ward for third on the all-time 450SX class starts list.
Some key insights to watch heading into this weekend’s 2016 Monster Energy Supercross Championship race from Angel Stadium include:
- Dungey now has 18 consecutive podiums dating back to last season. Can he make it 19 in Anaheim?
- Chad Reed is now one start away from tying Larry Ward for third on the all-time 450SX Class starts list with 188.
- Can Anaheim Opener winner Jason Anderson take the red plate back from Dungey?
- Can Eli Tomac earn his 20th top-five finish?
- Cooper Webb is three victories away from breaking into the top-10 on the all-time 250SX Class win list
- Riders to win the first two Western Regional 250SX Class races have gone onto win the championship in eight of the 10 seasons it happened. Riders to win the first three Western Regional races are a perfect six for six in winning the championship. Webb could become the seventh rider to win the first three races in a Western Regional championship.

Before a crowd of 36,825 at San Diego’s Petco Park last Saturday night, Dungey won his first race of the year and moved into the points lead, establishing a seven-point cushion in the 450SX Class’ point standings. The win marked Dungey’s 23 premier class victory.
Former two-time Monster Energy Supercross Champion Chad Reed finished second. Reed, who rides for the Monster Energy/360fly/Chaparral/Yamaha Factory Team, now has 128 career podium finishes. Team Honda HRC’s Cole Seely rounded out the podium with a third-place finish.
“It was a good night. I got off to decent start and as able to pick my way up to front. Chad [Reed] was on my heels the whole time, so I couldn’t make a big mistake, although I made a few little ones. It feels good to get the win and move back into the points lead. That’s the plan [coming into the season] and it’s working [so far].”

With back-to-back wins, Webb carries the points lead into Anaheim this Saturday
Yamaha’s Cooper Webb won his second consecutive Western Regional 250SX Class race and now has a 14-point lead in the championship standings.
“I got another bad start unfortunately, but it was awesome to come through pack like that,” said Webb, who has won six straight Main Events dating back to last season. “I had great battle with all the top guys since they were up front. I hope all the fans enjoyed that battle. It was a great night. I’m glad to be back up here and I’m looking forward to the rest of the year.”
Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy finished second and GEICO Honda’s Jordon Smith finished third for his first career podium result. Smith trails Savatgy for second by just one point in the season standings.
This weekend’s race will be the second held at Angel Stadium this year. Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Jason Anderson joined Webb as the winners of the first race at Angel Stadium, the 2016 season opener, in their respective classes.
