Beau Beaton – Island Classic Interview 1
Interview conducted with Beau Beaton after Island Classic International Challenge Race Two
“Yeah very controversial, the whole weekend I guess. They are making me working for it, we are about 15kph slower down the straight, which is much better than the 25kph we were down a few years ago. So we have found a bit of pace there, but we are working our arse off in the corners, everyone can see that.
“We need to work a little bit on heavy braking, it’s probably not our strong point. But coming onto the straight it’s flawless. It’s unbelievable.
“Even when it loses grip it’s very controllable, it’s very predictable. I have a lot of feel through the bike.
“We’re running Dunlops, I think Jeremy is running Bridgestone and Jed’s on Pirelli. A Superbike slick. The UK guys have got a bigger rim than us, they can fit the Dunlop. I’m running the same as Gilesy. Anyone can fit them. But you can see a small chicken strip on the outside of the tyre as they pull them around a little tight on the 5.5” rim. But, it’s a very predictable feel from the bike and through the tyre. We want to work a little on edge grip and heavy braking, and then we’ll go a little quicker.
“I know I’ve got to lead Jeremy at least into MG. The bike’s got the pace. If I can get 11 and 12 right it’s got the pace to the line. It won’t hold him out for a full straight length, but I’ve only got to get halfway down it to the flag…”
