The building is constructed from volcanic rock, hence the name and used to have a hot springs (and bootleg booze) that attracted the movie-star set back during the Depression and Prohibition. Before that it was a stagecoach stop. bought the store in 1961 after moving from Pittsburgh and set it up as the local grocery store. Things just happened from there…
