International Entertainment Group promises a more focused championship in 2014
Demonstrating a long-term vision and renewed commitment to their event spectators and competitors alike, Melbourne based International Entertainment Group (IEG) has today announced it will be making fundamental changes to the structure of its various motorcycle racing properties for 2014 and beyond.
Building on the success of last year’s Supercross at the Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island, IEG has worked side-by-side with the Northern Territory Government to deliver Darwin its second premier motorsport event. Hosted at Hidden Valley Raceway for the first time, this weekend the unique, world first event concept delivers three disciplines of motorcycle competition for competitors and fans.
IEG Managing Director Yarrive Konsky acknowledged the QBE Australian Superbike Championship needs a concentrated effort.
“Its not hard to research motorsport throughout the world and recognise paying spectators want more than just one discipline of racing, more than one activity,” Konsky explained.
“It’s our responsibilities as promoters to keep them engaged for the day. F1 in Melbourne has upwards of five different car categories racing, as well as an action sport centre, trade displays and in the past Crusty Demons of Dirt and Nitro Circus.
“We are after all promoters and are responsible of providing to spectators, riders and sponsors, gone are the days of merely running a race event using volunteers.”
IEG can confirm the following for 2014;
– Five rounds of Australian Superbike Championships.
– 2 + 4 events will run independently of the championship as long as it is viable.
– There will be TV at every round.
– The new Superbike class will see both classes combined into 1 category with one set of rules. MA over the course of the coming weeks is
doing their own independent study to determine the final outcome.
– A minimum of two of the five rounds will incorporate the Australian Supercross Championships.
– A new production class will be introduced.
“Our promise is – the QBE Australian Superbike Championship needs a concentrated effort and IEG need to ensure everything we offer we provide – my goal is to be consistent,” Konsky continued. “IEG want to concentrate on delivery, authenticity and activation.
“We will continue to communicate with teams and the industry and we endeavour to have a calendar out within two weeks. We already have four of the five rounds confirmed.”
