Curtain to race World Supersport
Yamaha Race Team’s star rider Kevin Curtain plans to compete in the World Supersport Championship once again.
Having finished runner-up twice, the reigning Formula Xtreme and ASBK Supersport champion has applied for a wildcard entry to the Phillip Island round of the WSS.
It’s a case of unfinished business and a chance to show international race teams what they missed.
Curtain plans to race in this one off event on a YZF-R6 built by his Yamaha Racing Team colleagues and based on the bike that was so dominant before the factory race team withdrew from the 600cc class.
YRT manager John Redding, along with chief technician Kev Marshall and the team are excited to be able to showcase Curtain’s talent on the world stage on a bike they have been preparing for 12 months.
“Our aim is to provide the team with interesting challenges, and this project certainly fits that description. The success of the R6 in WSS is recognised and we are in a fortunate position to be able to draw upon some of that expertise for this project,” explains Redding.
“The bike is a project funded partly by our sponsors and the savings we have been able to make concentrating on superstock style racing over the last few years. We have been collecting parts and slowly working on this project for the last year, assembling them as an after hours project between normal calendar events,” continues Redding.
The WSS event at Phillip Island takes place on 24 to 26 Feb 2013.
