Updated Vespa GTS family update arrives in Australia
Comfortable, responsive, welcoming and protective, the Vespa GTS combines its urban and city soul with the vocation to travel and tourism that the big Vespa have always embodied.
The Vespa GTS has evolved – striking a balance between tradition and modernity in design, body made strictly of steel. The Vespa GTS still preserves the characteristic and distinct traits of the large-body Vespa, but it includes numerous important updates.
The most sporting of the Vespa range continuously evolves new standards of safety, technology, comfort and attention to detail. All of the Vespa large body versions boast a spacious helmet compartment, a more and more comfortable seating position and latest generation instrumentation.
The new series features standard a USB port, located inside the compartment of the leg shield, while the front turn lights house a series of LED that act as day running lights.
The ergonomics and the natural seat position have always contributed to making every Vespa comfortable, pleasant to ride and accessible to all. The saddle of the Vespa GTS provides superior comfort, whilst the under-saddle space makes optimum use of the available room and can accommodate two Vespa demi-jet helmets.
The drawer in the leg shield back plate contributes to increase the load capacity of the new Vespa GTS. The Vespa GTS also provides the comfortable and firm support of the chrome-plated rear luggage rack.
Now, the Vespa GTS has adopted as well the very modern and technologically advanced i-Get engine in its most advanced version, with liquid cooling, electronic fuel injection, 4 valve timing, and, for the first time on a Vespa, the “Start and Stop” system.
Two engine sizes are offered – 125 and 150cc and overall fuel consumption benefits from the optimisation of each and every component: the fuel consumption recorded at 40km/h achieves 56km/l (roller bench test) and 42km/l (125cc; 41,2 on 150cc version) on WMTC cycle.
Vespa GTS comes also with a 300cc modern and advanced four valve, four stroke single cylinder Quasar engine with electronic injection, able to provide a maximum output of 15.6 kW (21.2 HP) at 7,750 rpm with maximum torque of 22 Nm at only 5,000 rpm. Values that ensure heightened acceleration readiness and in general extremely brilliant performance, making the new larger body Vespa ideal vehicles for city roads and touring, even long range travels, in full comfort whether alone or with a passenger.
The Piaggio Group is the first manufacturer to introduce scooter ASR electronic traction control (for 300 version), once available only on the best motorcycles, which prevents wheel spin. The electronic control package is rounded-off by the ABS, anti-braking system (for the whole GTS family).
The GTS Super, immediately recognisable from its black rims with diamond-shaped finish and from the double-upholstered saddle with clasp, is available in four colours: Nero Vulcano (Black), Rosso Matt (Red), Monte Bianco (white), Verde Speranza (green – new colour) on GTS125 and 150; and four colours: Monte Bianco, Grigio Titanio (grey), Verde Speranza (new colour), Giallo Gelosia (yellow – new color) on GTS 300.
These features are now standard on all models of the Vespa GTS line:
- Remote opening of the saddle and the Bike Finder – activating the flashing turn lights.
- A USB port, located in the compartment in the leg shield, convenient to recharge any external devices
- Front turn lights including a series of LEDs that also serve as daytime sidelights.
- The digital instrumentation consists of a classic speedometer and a small multifunction digital panel, surrounded by as many as six warning lights. The information displayed also includes the fuel level, clock and two trip meters.
As always in the Vespa tradition, the new GTS line also has a wide range of accessories to customise the vehicle and increase its level of comfort and functionality.
The top box, which can accommodate a full-face helmet, is painted to match the body colour and has a padded back rest to optimise passenger comfort.
The chrome front and rear luggage racks are among the most requested and appreciated accessories that characterise Vespa’s personality in a strong and distinct fashion as well as its long touring history.
The chrome perimeter guard kit is just one of the chrome accessories and guarantees maximum Vespa protection while offering a strong aesthetic personality.
Protection on board is guaranteed by the methacrylate impact and splinter resistant windshield and by the transparent high quality top fairing with its compact and sporty lines. The leg cover in thermal material, easy to install, offers driving comfort all year long.
The set of accessories is completed by the mechanical anti-theft device, the electronic anti-theft device, the bag inside the top box, the luggage rack straps, and the elegant “Country & Leisure” travelling rug.
