Josh Brookes striving to secure BSB Showdown spot at Silverstone

This weekend Silverstone plays host to the ninth round of the MCE British Superbike Championship, with three races and 75 points to play for, Josh Brookes has his sights set on securing his ‘showdown’ place.

After eight rounds of the 2017 MCE British Superbike Championship the drama continues this weekend, where six men will enter the vital ‘showdown’ to be able to battle it out to become the 2017 Champion.

Josh Brookes currently sits in fifth place of the Championship standings, but isn’t looking over his shoulder at the chasing pack, he’s focussing ahead, with the chance of three race wins at the Northamptonshire based venue, he can secure his place this weekend in the Championship fight at one his most successful circuits.

Brookes has stood on the podium nine times at the home of British motorsport, including six rostrums and three wins, picking up the double victory in 2015, and the former Champ is determined to repeat his previous success and cement his spot in this year’s fight for the title.

“Silverstone is a good circuit, I look forward to going there. It’s no different to any other round at this stage, it’s business as usual, and not in a secure manner. Nobody is completely secure, but being fifth in the championship it is just job as usual for me. I just have to go and get the results and head towards the championship decider.

“I don’t feel like there is any pressure put on me, I only put pressure on myself. The only pressure in our team should be in the tyres! The job has always been to win races, even from the first round of the year the idea and the expectation is to win races. That’s what we aim to achieve, and that’s how you win a championship.

“Other riders or teams may succumb to the idea of this round being greater than others, but to me it’s the same from the first round to the last. We’ve got the same job, the same objectives, so the pressure doesn’t change.

“Any round is the same for me, I’m going to try and achieve my best and you can only ride around at the speed that’s the best of your ability with the best of the bike that you have at your disposal. The best you can do on the bike is going to be the same regardless of how you think about it. I’ll just have to do what I can.”

Like Josh has said, many teams will be getting carried away with the complexity of what this weekend will give, however we won’t. It’s only human to feel nervous, but we’ll try to handle them in the best way, we aren’t putting any pressure on Josh because he knows what he has to do, so bring it on.”
