Since 2002, the AMA Supercross Series and the FIM World Supercross GP have run jointly, with two separate titles awarded at the series finale each year. From 2008, these two championships will be combined, with all results counting towards a single World Championship.
Having previously won both of these titles, Australia’s Supercross star Chad Reed now wants to add this combined title to his long list of achievements and is primed and ready for the opening round of the newly formed 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium on Saturday 5th January (Sunday 6th January AEDST).

Putting the disappointments of an injury plagued 2007 season behind him Reed, who has won more races than anyone else in the field, acknowledged he has enjoyed the ideal preparation for the start to this year’s series with some successful testing of the new 2008 Yamaha YZ450F following his clean sweep of the Bercy Paris Supercross.
“This time last year I was only just leaving hospital so already I am off to a much better start to the season,” said Reed.
“It is not one single thing that wins a championship it is having the total package that counts. This is the first time since winning the championship in 2004 that I feel I have had the fitness, the bike and the team all at 100% and having won both titles on separate occasions I now want the combined title”
Even though they were one of the most consistent teams in 2007 Reed who is entering his second year with the L&M/San Manual/Yamaha team said they were all looking forward to improving on last years results.
“Despite my injuries we were one of the most consistent teams in the series last year and were on podium for 17 of the 18 races,” he continued.
“We have been focusing on this event since the last round of the 2007 series and everything we have done for the past seven months has been in an effort to ensure we are ready.”
Reed has enjoyed success at Angel Stadium having previously won the event three times including a win on debut in 2003. At last years opening round the Australian stunned the sporting world taking holeshot and finishing the race third only days after leaving hospital with a broken shoulder and cracked collarbone.
