Dean Ferris out of SX after Jimboomba crash
After qualifying second fastest to Justin Brayton at the opening round of the Australian Supercross Championship in Jimboomba overnight, current Australian Motocross Champion Dean Ferris crashed heavily in a heat race.
Onlookers suggested Ferris had seen a yellow flag and tried to pull out of a jump, which saw him bail out and land hard on the up-ramp face of the next jump, just missing the RaceSafe buggy.
Ferris was then stabilised by RaceSafe before being transferred to hospital, where the 28-year-old was placed in Intensive Care until this morning.

This afternoon Ferris made enough progress to have his supported oxygen levels reduced enough for him to leave ICU and be transferred in the general ward.
Along with the hefty whack on the head, Ferris had suffered chest injuries and a lung contusion in the crash which had doctors initially quite worried. Hospital staff credited Dean’s significant core strength, and his body armour, as to the reason why he made it through such a major impact so well. If not for his armour, things could have been much worse.
The prognosis is for a full and speedy recovery, however he will not be able to train or overly exert himself for at least three weeks.
Thus it is almost certain that he will not contest the remainder of the 2018 Australian Supercross Championship, and will instead rest at home and await the birth of his second child.
Justin Brayton went on to the win the Jimboomba main event from teammate Brett Metcalfe in what was a Penrite Honda 1-2 to kick off the 2018 Australian Supercross season.
