Tom Bramich wins Australian 300 Supersport Championship

The Australian Supersport 300 class is known for intense racing, with the season finale at Phillip Island delivering, with Tom Bramich becoming the official 2018 Champion of the Australian Supersport 300 Championship, winning Race 2 of the weekend and claiming the title with an impressive overall lead.

Second place of the Championship has been awarded to Levy who couldn’t match Bramich in fighting for first place, but ensured he did everything he could to remain ahead of the competition with 379 points overall. Third place was awarded to Ford who used this weekend to successfully dominate his rivals and clocked up a total of 336 points.

Australian Supersport 300 Qualifying

Hunter Ford did not turn a wheel in the second of the 300 Supersport Qualifying sessions today, he had no need to after setting a scintillating 1m47.696 new benchmark in the morning session to lead the class.

Likewise Oli Bayliss was happy to let his 1m48.422 from QP1 stand and it too proved good enough to hang on to his second placed position on the grid.

Australian Supersport 300 Race One

The Supersport 300 class was one of the categories to have a race today and the 30-rider field set off for their opening seven-lap bout of the weekend at 1417 this afternoon in almost perfect conditions.

Locky Taylor was the early leader but Oli Bayliss quickly made his way to the front before Hunter Ford and Zac Levy moved past that pair, only for them to then get shuffled back again. As per normal in this exciting class the changes up front were happening too quickly to try and keep up with.

Tayla Relph then joined the party up front after putting in a 1m49.348 fastest lap of the race and moving up to second place. A lap later though she had been shuffled back down the field and was outside the top ten.

Hunter Ford worked his way back to the front and then managed to eke out a small buffer over his pursuers but Zac Levy managed to close him back down and on the last lap things were incredibly close.

Hunter Ford held on for the win though from Levy while Tom Bramich rounded out the podium ahead of Seth Crump.

Tayla Relph fought her way back up to fifth at the flag to cross the stripe just ahead of Oli Bayliss, Callum O’Brien, Max Stauffer and Laura Brown while Locky Taylor rounded out the top ten.

Australian Supersport 300 Race Two

Emotions ran high in Race 2 with the crowning of the 2018 Australian Supersport 300 Champion and a first podium position for a fan favourite. Coming in at second on the podium for Race Two of the Australian Supersport 300 Championship was Zac Levy, who used this race to keep a low profile until the final laps, where he sprung out and stole second place in the final straight.

Clinching the final podium position and getting her first taste of podium placement was Tayla Relph, who couldn’t be happier to make history for herself and her family here at ‘The Island’. Relph was a sight for sore eyes in Race Two, dancing with her rivals and even leading the pack at one point.

In a race that saw Callum O’Brien crash out early in lap three, Oli Bayliss and Hunter Ford crash out in lap five and Laura Brown crash out at turn four of lap six, our podium winners remained composed and focused as they worked to dominate the competition.

Rounding out the remaining places in the top five was Seth Crump and Max Stauffer, who both pulled out all stops early in the race to push their way up into the podium but just couldn’t keep up the pace in the final lap with Bramich, Levy and Relph.

Australian Supersport 300 Race Three

Nearly replicating Race Two earlier today, Race Three of the Australian Supersport 300 Championship was nothing short of intense as riders battled it out up until the final straight.

Stealing top podium position for Race Three of the Australian Supersport 300 Championship was Locky Taylor whose performance contrasted his more subdued finish in Race Two earlier today. Taylor’s perseverance this afternoon earnt him 293 points overall in the Championship and places him in at sixth position for the year.

Biting at Taylor’s heels right down the final straight and nabbing second place on the podium for Race Three was Oli Bayliss, who earlier today crashed out alongside Hunter Ford. Bayliss sits in fourth position overall in the Championship, with 325 points.

Clinching the final podium position in Race Three was Seth Crump, who has been in excellent form this weekend, appearing at the front of the pack at numerous points throughout each race. Crump’s efforts this weekend place him officially in fifth position behind Crump, with a total of 295 points.

Bramich took the overall round, ahead of Levy in second and Crump in third.
