 Yamaha YZF-R3 on the way – 321cc parallel twin, 42hp, 169kg, and most important of all, it looks very trick!

Yamaha have taken the wraps off on what will be a hot option for Australians new to motorcycling in 2015 with the very sporting looking YZF-R3 set to put the cat among the pigeons in the increasingly competitive learner market.
Powered by a 321cc parellel twin and boasting 42hp the Yamaha YZF-R3 has been produced by making a big bore version of the R25, the cylinder bore increased by 8mm while the stroke remains the same. Liquid-cooled, fuel injected and putting the power down through a six-speed transmission the YZF-R3 promises a sporty ride while the long stroke nature of the engine should provide reasonable torque down low, Yamaha claim a peak of 29Nm at 9000rpm.
The front forks are 41mm KYB items as is the monoshock rear. Tyres are 140/70 and 110/70-17.
We believe the YZF-R3 will make its way Down Under in early 2015 and promises to be another exciting and affordable option for new motorcyclists. Has there ever been a better time to be a new motorcyclist? Well as far as the range of machinery goes it certainly is, despite the best efforts of government in making it harder for peope to get a licence and the onerous restrictions now placed on new riders the offerings now coming to the marketplace are sure to encourage new people to take up our favourite past time.
If you are heading down to Phillip Island this weekend for MotoGP wander over to the Yamaha stand in the Expo tent and you can cast your eyes over the new YZF-R3 for yourself, and of course, let them know where you heard about it first!
