Wayne Maxwell to race Kings of Wanneroo – by Russell Colvin
Current ASC championship leader Wayne Maxwell will tackle the famous Kings of Wanneroo event which will take place on the first weekend of November.
Maxwell will saddle up on a Champions Ride Days Honda CBR1000RR and will this year be one of the headline acts in Western Australia.
Three times Australian Superbike champion Glenn Allerton took out Kings of Wanneroo in 2008, ahead of John and Michael Laverty.
In 2009, World Superbike ace Johnny Rea took the spoils on the Rick Gill Honda machine, beating his fellow stable mate, Andrew Pitt. Englishman Simon Andrews was third.
2010 Australian Superbike Champion, Bryan Staring has stood tall on home soil in 2010 and 2012.
The Kings of Wanneroo has seen some of the best motorcycle races from around the globe take on the 2.4km circuit. Names such as Jeremy McWilliams, Conor Cummins, Keith Amor, Ryan Farquhar and Guy Martin. Australian stars to have contested the Kings of Wanneroo include IOM T.T superstar Cam Donald, 2002 Australian Supersport champion, Shannon Johnson, Mitch Carr, Chas Hern and Broc Parkes and so on.
Maxwell heads over to Barbagallo Raceway about twice a month with Champions Ride Days to run their ride days. “It’s become quite a frequent trip to Western Australia” said Maxwell. “With the support from Champions Ride Days and other associated sponsors we were able to come up with the idea that we would do the race. A few things for me, obviously I wanted to take my own team if I could, because I like working with my mechanic, Warren Monson. He was available, so once we worked out all of those things it made the decision a bit easier to go.”
Maxwell also told MCNews.com.au that this event is something that he has always wanted to have a go at. “I’m very excited about getting over there and having the chance to have a crack at it” said the 32-year old Victorian.
