MX Nationals announce 2015 class formats
For 2015 the MX Nationals series will see the return of tradition to the racetrack – with the announcement today of the MX1, MX2, and MXD class formats for the much-anticipated 2015 motocross season.
Williams Event Management (WEM) and the MX Nationals are pleased to announce the all-new standardised class formats for all ten rounds of the MX Nationals series.
The premier MX1 class will race the traditional two 30-minute motos plus a lap at all ten rounds of the series – ensuring that the best riders in the country are racing on the same level as their international competitors.
With the majority of the MX2 class populated by privateer riders who often work 9-5 jobs during the week, 2015 will see riders take on one 30-minute moto plus a lap. The second race of the day for the MX2 class, will be one 20-minute moto plus a lap, to cater for the shorter training programs available to our hard working riders.
The most exciting announcement however, is that in 2015 the Under 19’s (MXD) class will compete at all ten rounds of the MX Nationals, increasing race time for Australia’s up-and-coming stars.
With ten rounds of racing for MXD, WEM has confirmed that the development class will race two 20-minute motos plus a lap, ensuring that riders are well prepared for when they make the move to the MX2 or MX1 class in future years.
With the changes to class formats in 2015, the MX Nationals series is all set to deliver high quality racing, appealing to riders, teams and fans alike.
The Australian Women’s Motocross Championship will finally make its much-anticipated return to the series in 2015.
Yamaha Australia has jumped on board to back the championship as the naming sponsor, and after several years away, 2015 will see Australia’s leading ladies of motocross, line up for a two-round series alongside the MX Nationals.
Series promoter Kevin Williams shared his excitement in welcoming the women of the sport back to the MX Nationals, and to the racetrack in 2015.
“There is no doubt that Australia’s leading ladies are showing their talent on the international stage, and we are looking forward to providing the opportunity for these women to strut their stuff in front of our national and international riders at the MX Nationals,” he said.
“At this stage for us this is a one year deal, but with support from the female racing community, we are hoping to extend this opportunity and continue the class for years to come.”
One woman who couldn’t be happier in seeing the return of women’s racing to the MX Nationals, is Australia’s number one female racer, Meghan Rutledge.
“I’m really excited for the girls to get back to the MX Nationals in 2015,” she said.
“I am going to make sure my International calendar works with these dates so I can have the opportunity to race other Aussie women at the MX Nationals next year.”
The first round of the Yamaha Australian Women’s Motocross Championship will be staged at one of Victoria’s most iconic and loved venues – the State Motorcycle Complex in Broadford on April 26.
The second and final round of the series for the women will be held in Nowra, New South Wales, alongside the eighth round of the MX Nationals on August 2.
All women’s races will consist of two 15-minute motos, providing the girls with the opportunity to race at some of the best venues Australia has to offer, at the biggest Australian Motocross Championship – the MX Nationals.
All new support classes added to 2015 MX Nationals program
In recent years, the MX Nationals has received an incredible response for support classes held at selected rounds of its 10-round series, and next year the support classes are set to continue.
For the 2015 motocross season, the team from Williams Event Management (WEM) have put together two brand new support classes, to add to the already action packed program.
With a huge amount of talented youngsters currently making their way through the Australian junior ranks, WEM in conjunction with Yamaha Australia, has created the Yamaha Rising Star Rookies Cup, which will be open to riders aged 13-15 years.
The Yamaha Rising Star Rookies Cup will be held at three selected rounds of the 2015 MX Nationals. Round one will be held at Appin, round two in Shepparton and the final round will be staged on the Saturday of racing at the final round of the series in Coolum.
Yamaha Australia’s Motorsport Manager Ray Howard, spoke of the partnership and the company’s continued commitment to junior racing in Australia.
“Yamaha and WEM have worked together for more than 18 years, so the opportunity to support this class was one we jumped at,” he said.
“At Yamaha we believe in supporting junior racing, and ensuring that the future of our sport is well looked after through racing opportunities like this.”
MX Nationals promoter Kevin Williams shared his thoughts on adding the new class to the 2015 series.
“The success of the 125cc class last year has shown that riders and parents are keen to support the series, and show their talent to the industry,” he said.
“We see this class as a great stepping stone to the MXD class, and we are looking forward to seeing the rising stars of the future, racing at the MX Nationals in 2015.
In addition to the Yamaha Rising Star Rookies class, the MX Nationals will also host a three-round Australian Amateur Cup for the 2015 season, which will be supported by KTM Australia.
The KTM Amateur Cup will be open to seniors on all powered bikes who haven’t finished inside the top-10 in the championship in the last five years, and who haven’t had top 15 moto results in MX1 or MX2 in the past two years.
KTM Australia’s General Manager Jeff Leisk, commented on the manufacturers decision to support the brand new amateur class for 2015.
“KTM has a longstanding relationship with WEM, and have supported many initiatives which provide privateers and amateurs with the opportunity to participate in racing at the MX Nationals,” he said.
“Last year we had huge success with the KTM Two-Stroke Cup, and we are very excited to continue to support these types of initiatives, including the KTM Amateur Cup in 2015.”
The KTM Amateur Cup has been created to cater for those racers who may not race full time, and previously would not have had the opportunity to be competitive at the MX Nationals.
Round one of the Amateur Cup will be held at Horsham, round two at Raymond Terrace, while the final round will be held on the Saturday of racing at the final round of the series for 2015, in Coolum Queensland.

Veterans classes included in 2015 MX Nationals program
Some of the greatest motocross athletes of our time have continued their racing careers in veterans classes at the MX Nationals. And next year will be no different, with two Vets Championships included in the 2015 program.
Williams Event Management has recognised the success of the veterans classes in previous seasons, and will next year offer two vets categories for Australia’s older racing community.
The V3 class will be open to all riders aged 30-39 years, with the Championship race being at the fifth round of the MX Nationals in Coolum Queensland, on May 31.
The V4 class will be open to racers aged 40 years and over, providing the perfect opportunity to showcase the talent of the older riders of our sport.
The V4 Championship will be staged at the fourth round of the 2015 MX Nationals series, in Murray Bridge South Australia.
MX Nationals series promoter Kevin Williams shared his thoughts on the 2015 Veterans Championships.
“We are really excited to hold two Veterans Championships once again in 2015,” he said.
“We know from previous years that a lot of the guys entering these veterans races are hard working racing parents, business owners, or have demanding 9-5 jobs – so to ensure the ease of participation, we will run the vets championships over one round.
“The one round championships are designed to make participating in these races much easier for our older athletes, and to ensure the continued competitiveness in each of the veterans classes.”
