Deus BMW R nineT Takes Shape
Several months ago, BMW Motorrad and world-renowned custom house Deus Ex Machina announced a partnership that will result in a stunning interpretation of the BMW R nineT. On completion it will capture the essence of BMW Motorrad’s 90-plus year history with Deus’ distinctive design.
The BMW R nineT has captivated riders since its release in 2013, so much so that in 2014 it is BMW Motorrad”s fourth biggest seller worldwide.
In July, the R nineT was delivered to the Deus workshop where it was stripped down to its bare bones so the artists could go to work converting their drawings into a road-going reality.
With the R nineT standing on the workbench in its naked glory, the technicians took more measurements against the drawings and further pared back the machine. The battery was moved to free up space and reduce visual clutter. Next, Deus worked on manufacturing an exhaust system that accentuates design purity with audible excellence.
The next stage in this exciting journey has seen the R nineT delivered to MotoRetro, who specialise in distinctive bodywork. Beautifully crafted mudguards have been fabricated and added to the skeleton of the developing motorcycle and more parts are being produced to enhance the concept.
“The influence is to streamline yet emphasise the aggressive masculinity of the BMW R nineT and produce a motorcycle that is both engaging to look at and ride,” said Deus Ex Machina General Manager, Ben Monroe.
For BMW Motorrad Australia Marketing Manager, Miles Davis, the Deus project is truly exciting. “We are fascinated by the Deus R nineT project. The stunning creation is metamorphosing and we are looking forward to both seeing and riding the finished R nineT in the early part of 2015,” said Davis.
