Jorge Lorenzo calls for harsher punishment for Valentino Rossi after clash with Marc Marquez
Unless you have spent the past 18 hours or so living in a different solar system, you would be well aware that Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez had a coming together at the Sepang MotoGP yesterday.
Race direction handed Rossi three penalty points, which when added to the to the single penalty point he was given at Misano for baulking Lorenzo, demotes Rossi to the back of the grid for the title decider at Valencia in a fortnight.
Rossi’s Yamaha teammate, Jorge Lorenzo, is the only other rider capable of taking the 2015 MotoGP Championship.
The Spaniard was reserved in his comments until he examined the incident on video, Lorenzo was ahead of the pair of the time and witnessed none of the on-track battle between the pair that was unfolding behind him, but opened up sometime later in another interview after the race.
Jorge Lorenzo – “I don’t think it’s a good decision, h took out Marc, and Marc gets zero points, but he gets 16 points. I think it’s unfair and maybe because of his name he can get no decision this time.
“It’s unbelievable, I didn’t believe it. It’s not fair in this kind of corner to put the bike so that the other rider falls.
“But it happened, race direction made the decision and we have to respect it – but I don’t agree. Minimum, Valentino should have the same points as Marc because without this action, Marc would not crash and he will finish probably in third position or fourth position. If he didn’t finish the race and get zero points Valentino should make the same.
“With much less aggressive actions by other riders, they get much higher penalty sanctions but, as I say before, his name is very important for the championship and maybe because of that, he doesn’t get any sanction on points in the championship.”
