A4DE Halfway mark sees new leader
The Yamaha 2014 Australian 4 Day Enduro has reached the halfway point and resulted in quite a significant shuffle in the overall standings.
A frosty work period greeted the riders in the morning with a layer of ice covering every single bike in the Parc Ferme.
How quickly the temperature changed! In contrast to day 1 with sprinklings of rain throughout, day 2 turned hot and dusty after a cold start.
Riding for a hat-trick of A4DE Championships, CDR Yamaha’s Daniel Milner was on top of his game in the dry conditions, showing the form he had when he won last years 4Day and Australian Off-Road Championships.
Milner finished on top for day 2 with a 14 second lead over Toby Price (Motorex KTM Off-Road) who had a much better performance by his standards.
Day 1 leader Chris Hollis (CDR Yamaha) slipped to fourth today and now sits third overall behind Price and Milner.
Josh Strang (Yamaha) and Lachlan Stanford (Husqvarna) continued their strong start, rounding out the top five overall at the halfway point.
The E1 class saw another shuffle with Peter Boyle (Motorext KTM Off-Road) dropping to third, Tom McCormack (Active8 Yamaha) jumps up to the lead and Husqvarna import Mike Brown stole second.
Husqvarna Team Manager/Rider Glenn Kearney continued to hold off young up-and-comer Daniel “Chucky” Sanders in the E3 class, Sanders moved up to second and is knocking on the door of the experienced Kearney.
Jess Gardiner riding for Ballards Off-Road team guided her Sherco mount to the end of day 2 in what was tough day for one of the fastest female Enduro riders in the world.
“I managed to crash three times in the special tests!” Gardiner wrote on her Facebook page.
“I’m pumped to see I have a small gap out in front after day 2 progressive results with a 28 second lead.”
Her Australian International Six Day Enduro team mate Tayla Jones (KTM) will no doubt be tough to hold off for the remaining two days.
The Australian 4Day Enduro continues tomorrow morning from 7am at Riverwood Downs.
