Pirelli has been appointed Official Tyre Supplier to the 2014 Australian Superbike Championship for all classes of competition.
Link International has increased their partnership with the Australian Superbike Championship for 2014, with the agreement to supply the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) with Pirelli tyres for all classes in 2014.
Pirelli has been has been the Official Tyre Supplier to the FIM World Superbike Championship for over ten years, providing World Championship level racing tyres to the FIM World Superbike Championship, World Supersport and World Superstock Championship among other classes with great success. The recent move to 17-inch” tyres in the World Superbike Championship has meant an even closer link to the Australian Superbike Championship, with riders in the 2014 ASBK season ahead being able to use some of the exact same tyre solutions used at rounds of the World Superbike Championship in 2013, to race in the premier Australian road race series in 2014.
Pirelli will provide two compound choices front and rear in Superbike, Supersport 600 and Evo Unlimited classes, to provide riders and teams with optimum choice for the best race times, bike and tyre performance in differing track conditions throughout the season, and to provide a level playing field for both Factory supported and Privateer riders alike. The Superlites and Production classes will also run on Pirelli tyres for the upcoming ASBK season.
In addition Link and Pirelli are providing more than $30,000 in various contingencies across the ASBK classes, showing their level of commitment to riders who choose to race in the ASBK in 2014.
Yarrive Konsky – Managing Director IEG Events : “We are excited about our decision. It was an easy one. We have a responsibility to ensure progression and Pirelli offered us the best tyres available and that was integral. I didn’t want to compromise the championship by running anything less than the best a tyre manufacture had to offer. This was coupled with the reality that Pirelli were also providing the WSBK proven tyres at race supported prices.
“We have been associated with Link on various levels for two decades and their passion for racing hasn’t skewed even in trying times and that consistency also made it easy when deciding which direction to take. Furthermore what cemented my confidence in choosing Pirelli was there continued development in Superbike racing throughout the world. They have been with WSBK for over a decade and recently aligned with BSB and the Canadian SBK.
“Most riders wouldn’t know but since their inception into WSBK they have come up with 621 solutions, that’s an enormous amount of development, lastly I requested they put back in to the riders and they have again responded  kindly by offering contingency and ensuring that the premier Superbike Championship in Australia can provide prize money”.
Don Nicholas – Pirelli Moto Product Manager, Link International, ““We are enthusiastic about the upcoming 2014 season, and our alignment with the Australian Superbike Championship as Official Tyre Supplier with Pirelli.
“Pirelli is passionate about racing and has built an enormous reputation providing World Class racing tyres to domestic road racing championships around the world, in conjunction with their ongoing role as Official Tyre of the FIM World Superbike Championship.
“We look forward to working closely with Motorcycling Australia and IEG to bring this worldwide experience to Australia and to offer Australian road racers the opportunity to enjoy this world class level of performance and support when they race in the Australian Superbike Championship in 2014. We hope our contingency program also adds value for Privateer riders as they compete in the ASBK series throughout the year.”
