32-year-old Ben Henry has been a regular staple of the ASBK Championship for many years. Predominantly on Suzuki machinery under his team banner, ‘Cube Racing’.
MCNews.com.au spoke with Ben this afternoon from the Queensland home he shares with Bryan Staring. The two West-Australian natives moved to Queensland together five years ago to be closer to the eastern seaboard race events.
It just so happened that Ben had just taken delivery of a new ZX-10R Kawasaki and had been tuning the green meanie in on the dyno.
“I have just picked up a new ZX-10R, and am actually just tuning the big girl on the dyno. It’s the first day, I had never run it until this morning, and I am just getting it going and it’s going good too.
“I have sold some of my Suzukis, and am still trying to get rid of the rest of them as a ZX-10R is what I am riding this season.
“I committed to FX as early as October last year to do the two-up rides for the series and also to run onboard cameras in at least half the races.
“The team structure will basically be the same, myself as the rider under the Cube Racing banner.
“The sponsors are basically the same, some are tipping in a little more, some a little less. This season won’t be quite as easy for me as it has been in previous years, as in financially it is going to be a lot harder than it has been.
“I think that is probably, due to my lack of results last year. Probably more than that, was just the series….I just couldn’t deliver what I said I was going to, which was TV and you sort of just can’t keep saying you are going to do something and then not, and then expect people to continue giving you their money, so a few of those people have kind of left in disgust, as much as I have copped it, it is not exactly my fault but anyway that’s how it is, I can’t change that.
“I’m training my butt off right now, Bryan and I ride our bicycles 500km a week so I am busy getting fit for the challenges that lay ahead.”
It’s fair to say that with the form of the field set to contest the 2014 Swann Australasian Superbike Championship those challenges are set to be bigger than ever. MCNews.com.au wishes Ben the best of luck for season 2014.
