Damian Cudlin rides IDM Yamaha YZF-R1M and talks about his upcoming IDM German Superbike Championship season with Team MGM
Taree’s Damian Cudlin recently winged his way back to Europe for his first ride on the MGM Yamaha YZF-R1M he will contest the 2015 IDM German Superbike Championship on under the Team Yamaha MGM (Michael Galinski Motorsport) banner.
Damian Cudlin – “I’m really surprised with just how good this bike is straight out of the box. Obviously it was the first roll out for us, so we all started from scratch, yet pretty much everyone up and down the pit lane went fast right away. It was very impressive.”
“The impression I got from the R1M is different from any other production bike I’ve ever ridden. Honestly it feels more like a GP bike. I would say that this is the closest thing to MotoGP available. We’re going to have a lot of fun with this thing!”
“IDM is my priority this season with MGM Yamaha, but I’ll also be doing a bit of Endurance for Yamaha as well. Probably as spare rider for their official teams- YART and GMT. It’ll keep me busy but that’s how I like it. The more riding the better.”
Cudlin’s teammate at MGM will be 31-year-old German Max Neukirchner – “I am really surprised about the power of the bike. The handling and braking is really good and while working we found a little bit more rear grip and now it feels like a bomb from my side. For me the team is completely new. I changed team, bike and class, so everything is completely new. The power is what I like best about the bike and second comes the braking. When I brake after the long straight, the bike is perfect and the brakes are very consistent and also the electronics and traction control are working really well. We want to fight for the IDM title, I think it’s going to be a tough year but we are a strong team and we will be fighting for the podium.”
Also testing at the Alcarras Circuit in Spain were many other European Yamaha teams that will contest various championships, including the all-Australian Milwaukee Yamaha squad of Broc Parkes and Josh Brookes that will contest the 2015 British Superbike Championship.
Cudlin’s tilt at the 2015 IDM German Superbike Championship gets underway in early May for round one at Lausitzring.
