—Â Condo Conquered Again by GHR and Honda
The Condo 750 Cross Country Rally was conducted this weekend in the central NSW township of Condobolin. Originally started as a warm up event for the International Australian Safari Rally the Condo 750 is now a renowned event its own right.
Riders and drivers came from as far away as Perth and Cairns to do battle on some of the best Outback tracks of western NSW.
GHR Honda riders Jacob and Todd Smith were in dominant form finishing 1st and 2nd Outright as they have done so many times before in various rallies and desert races.
Day 1 had the riders completing a short prologue before being restarted in qualifying order. Todd Smith led out Rod Fagotter on the team Yamaha bike with Jacob back in fifth. Once the racing in the specials started Jacob showed his hand and let the GHR Honda CRF450X loose. At the half way point on day one Jacob had passed all the riders in front of him and was leading outright on the track. He then had a navigational mistake and Todd was back leading the field on the course. The two riders finished the day out front with Todd a little sore after a get off in the morning stages. Bikes completed 431kms today.
Day 2 Had the GHR Honda’s leading out the field. Jacob was first on the road and with dusty conditions he set about setting up the win. In the first stage he took time out of Todd and Rod, from then on it was about controlling the race from the front. He now had over five minutes to his brother and 15 minute gap back to the Yamaha of Rod Faggotter, with this in mind Jacob simply stayed first on road and rode mistake free to bank his second win at the iconic event. Bikes completed 470kms on day 2 being a total of 900kms for the weekend.
Comment Jacob smith “A big thanks to Jake and Glenn for the help on the weekend and for Simon for delivering another great bike on Friday, it makes it easier when the bike just turns up before the race and we can go out and win again, thanks to all the team sponsors and land owners for letting us cut loose on their properties all weekend”
Comment Todd Smith “Thanks to all the GHR Team and Honda for the continued support, I had an off over the weekend but Jacob had too much speed this weekend, he deserved the win ”
Comment Glenn Hoffmann “It was another great result for the team, This is our eighth win outright on a bike and the third race straight in Australia were the team has gone 1st and 2nd Outright following our win at the Australian Safari Rally and Yellow Mountain Desert Race. Simon did an amazing job as usual prepping the bikes, Linda and Jake Young as always did their thing which makes my job possible. To all our sponsors, especially Honda, it is good to continue to say thanks the best way the team can by continuing to win. For Jacob as a rider I feel it was one of his best career results. He planned his position in prologue, was scary fast on the first day with many spectators commenting to me personally and then on day two banked the result beating his brother by over 4 minutes, and multi winner Rod Faggotter by over 13 minutes, it certainly looks good for Safari if he carries this form for the rest of the year.”
For Honda the results were not just there for the GHR boys, 1st and 2nd Quad were also TRX700XX’s ridden by Ryan Hall and Brett Clissold. Ryan had shown speed before but was let down by his tyre and wheel combo. This year after getting the correct set up he was able to show his true potential finishing 9th outright with the majority of quad owners now on TRX700XX’s.
Honda dealer Malcolm Marks continues to show his maturity is not slowing him down winning his class again on the mighty little CRF250X.
Next years event is on again and organisers are promising 750 kilometres of special tests over the two days.
