Glenn Allerton tops Friday practice at Mallala
The fourth practice session got underway just after 1430 this afternoon and it was Glenn Allerton that lowered the benchmark down to 66.643 on the fifth of his seven laps in the final practice session before the single 18-minute qualifying session gets underway later this afternoon.
Swann Australasian FX Superbike Championship leader Troy Herfoss set down the morning benchmark for the day in the second practice session, a 66.825 before the Team Honda rider went down at turn three. Herfoss was uninjured but his Fireblade SP needed plenty of repairs which resulted in the Goulburn based 28-year-old sitting out FP3.
Wayne Maxwell was second quickest in the final practice session with a 66.980 on the YZF-R1M but on combined times Herfoss’ morning time was still good enough for second place. The Goulburn based 28-year-old was back on track this afternoon but couldn’t match his morning pace, a 67.220 his time this afternoon.
Sean Condon was a big improver, the Bikebiz Kawasaki rider down to 67.330 in FP4 to promote himself into fourth quickest overall on the ZX-10R.
Like his Honda teammate Jamie Stauffer’s fastest lap of the day came in the second practice session this morning. That 67.409 good enough for fifth on combined times.
Cru Halliday has been getting marginally faster in every session and dropped a further four-tenths off his previous best to end the final practice session sixth on combined time. Cru had the measure of his teammates at the Eastern Creek series opener but both Maxwell and Allerton almost half-a-second ahead of Halliday here at Mallala thus far this weekend.
Mike Jones made a big improvement this afternoon with his 67.562 good enough for seventh overall ahead of fellow Kawasaki rider Matt Walters.
Linden Magee’s 68.281 in FP3 remained good enough to give the Brisbane based rider ninth on combined times while Ben Burke rounded out the top ten.
The single 18-minute qualifying session gets underway later this afternoon.
