In only seven days the 2014 Swann Superbike Series will again fire up, and it’s this round that will mark the return of one of Australia’s star racers.
There was a noticeable gap left on the grid at round one of the Swann Superbike Series at Wakefield Park, with star rider Josh Hook absent due to an injury sustained just prior to the series commencement.
It was a blow that was hard to take for Team Honda Racing’s Hook, who was a favorite heading into the 2014 series, however with his injuries slowly healing up it will be at Mallala Motorsport Park that he makes his 2014 Swann Superbike Series debut.
“My crash happened at Phillip Island in February this year. I had been feeling really good on the bike, qualified on pole, took a race win and then I had the crash. I ended up breaking my radius, clavical, and fractured my C6 vertebrae. It’s probably one of the bigger crashes I have had,” he said.
“Since my injuries there’s a few aches and pains, my wrist is obviously not as strong as what it was, but riding a bike is not that bad actually, it’s not that painful. I’m just a little sore when I hop off (laughs).
“I’ve been doing a lot of cycling – that’s the only thing I can do really without things hurting too much. I’ve also been back on the motocross bike. Now that things are starting to heal up it’s been mostly cycling and motocross for me.
“Everything is going pretty well, and I think I’m healing up alright.”
The Swann Superbike Series is jam packed with talent this year, but with Hook finally back on his feet, the time has come to chase down a championship and it’s a task that the young Honda rider feels that he is up to.
“After the two day test we had at Mallala, we have come away with some good notes and we have a direction we want to go in with the bike,” he said.
“Everything feels like it’s going really well, I definitely think we will be running up the front at Mallala.
“Team Honda Racing and the whole crew have been working really hard, and it’s just good to be back on the bike.
“It’s going to be hard after missing the first round, but for me it’s about being consistent and finishing at the pointy end of the field. I just want to finish the races, get some good points and see where we end up.”
