Sertum 250 VT4
Once one of Italy’s most noteable motorcycle manufacturers Sertum passed in obscurity after bankruptcy
Another fairly obscure Italian marque is Sertum. The company was founded in Milan in 1932 and by 1939 was producing a wide range of models and ranked with Benelli, Gilera and Moto Guzzi as a major manufacturer. They won five Gold Medals at the 1939 ISDT.
During the war they produced motorcycles for the army then switched back to civilian models in 1946 with the MC500 and this 250 VT4 (from 1947) which made 12hp at 5,600rpm and was fitted with a four speed gearbox. Top speed was 105kph.
The company was again successful in the 1949 ISDT with three Gold Medals won. However they went bankrupt in 1952 after failing to follow the trend for lower cost models such as scooters and mopeds. The non-payment of a large export order to Argentina was the final blow.
This Sertum 250 VT4 is on display at the Morbidelli Muesum, Pesaro.
