For most of those racing the Monster Energy MX Nationals, the chance to ride a round of the championship close to home are few and far between. Thankfully for DPH Motorsport’s MX1 racer Kade Mosig, round three at Wonthaggi is just down the road.
Mosig who has rode dirt bikes since the ripe age of eight has also been racing at Wonthaggi Motocross track as far back as 1998. Now the opportunity has come up again, to show the local crowds what he is made of on his Yamaha machine come April 27.
For the likeable Mosig, his local round is about having the support of his family and friends around him, and enjoying sleeping in his own bed for the night!
“It’s always great having my family and friends come and support me at that round. They obviously don’t get to see a lot of the races that I do, it just great for them to come along and give me some support,” he said.
“One of the best parts is that I get to sleep in my own bed! It’s always nice the night before a race and it doesn’t happen very often at all.
“Wonthaggi is such a great track, and they have a completely rebuilt circuit and everything has all been upgraded. Having that track as my home race every year is awesome.
Mosig said that the local area is boosted by having a round of the nationals, and hopes it translates to support for the area throughout the week.
“Motocross is huge in the Gippsland region. There are a lot of off-road riders, motocross riders, and just general punters that love the sport,” he said.
“As well as the riders, there are plenty of fans and bike shops, so it’s always good for the area to pump things up before a race.
“I love my fans and I really noticed at Broadford what a difference it makes when you can hear them all cheering for you.”
