KTM FREERIDE E-XC
The KTM FREERIDE E-XC is another global first, namely the world’s first electric high performance enduro. Just as light, aggressive and powerful as the KTM FREERIDE E-SX, it has all it needs to be street legal – things like lights, indicators, mirrors and an ‘ignition’ lock. This makes it possible to ride on public roads in near silence and with zero emissions, and unlocks a nature and riding experience without regret. After all, MX riders are not the only ones suffering from increasingly strict regulations. Free off roading also becomes increasingly restrictive, and even motorcycling on tarmac is threatened by more and more restrictions.
The KTM FREERIDE E-XC is bound to counter such limitations and win back a dimension of freedom for offroad sports that already seemed lost forever because of stricter and stricter regulations.
The brushless, permanent magnet synchronous motor of the KTM FREERIDE E models is powered by a lithium-ion battery with a 2.6 kWh capacity.
Perfectly matched to the complete package, an intelligent ECU ensures that the machine provides a maximum of riding enjoyment with a spontaneous but easily controllable response. The high torque electric motor only needs a single drive ratio and no gearbox, so you neither have to clutch nor shift. At 42 Nm of torque, available basically from zero rpm in typical electric motor fashion, the KTM FREERIDE E-XC easily competes in the same league as conventional offroad bikes. Even with respect to operating safety, the KTM FREERIDE E-XC makes no compromise, having been developed according to the same high safety standards as the hybrid and electric vehicles of the car industry. Not even fording pose problems as the complete powertrain, including the battery, has been designed as a waterproof, closed system.
At 11 kW of continuous power, the light, 110 kg KTM FREERIDE E-XC even complies learner restrictions for use on public roads. The easy handling and a choice of three ride modes make it especially easy for beginners to try their hand at motorcycling. The powerful motor with the typical, burly thrust of an electric motor and up to 16 kW of peak power make the light E-bike especially attractive for younger, aggressive urban and suburban riders. But even experienced riders looking for an alternative or supplement to their combustion- engined machine, or who want to contribute to the reduction of air pollution and noise, are potential
KTM FREERIDE E-XC riders. After all, the electric enduro is not only great fun offroad but also makes a lot of sense for all-round commuting in urban traffic.

KTM FREERIDE E-SX
The KTM FREERIDE E-SX is the first electric high performance motocross bike in the world. It deserves to be seen as the dedicated development of the Freeride concept, with a view to ever more restricted offroad riding opportunities in many countries. Time and again, KTM has set new standards in offroad sports with innovative technology.
For that reason alone, the global market leader is in a kind of natural pioneering position with regard to new, forward-looking concepts. One example of the way KTM has accepted this role is the Freeride concept.
The Austrians had hardly finished designing this perfect synthesis of enduro and trials motorbike, celebrating early success with the ingenious idea, when the second stage was ignited in Mattighofen, designing alternative methods of propulsion for the Freeride.
In times when a lot of manufacturers are pulling out of their offroad commitments, KTM now starts manufacturing a motorbike with zero-noise and zero-emission propulsion that might well revolutionise the world of offroad bikes and is capable of unlocking completely new perspectives for the sport.
In contrast to a few niche manufacturers that are studying electric motorcycles, KTM has adopted high voltage technology for its electric bikes, which has proven to work well for electric cars.
A 300V battery with 2.6 kWh, a highly developed ECU and a brushless, permanent magnet synchronous motor capable of delivering up to 16kW of peak power form the high performance powertrain. The high torque electric motor only needs a single drive ratio and neither clutch nor gearbox, which makes the electric bike very easy to ride. Like its sister models with combustion engines, the KTM FREERIDE E-SX has a frame made of high-quality chrome molybdenum steel sections and bolt-on, forged aluminium components, as well as top quality suspension components by WP Suspension.
The high performance technology and top-notch components of the KTM FREERIDE E-SX go with a downright elementary concept: no lights, no speedometer, no street homologation. It has been designed exclusively for use in offroad parks, on small MX circuits and generally in private, closed-off areas. With its zero-emission, almost silent drive, it can even be used on urban tracks where motocross on conventional machines has become impossible due to noise and environmental constraints. In close cooperation with local operators, KTM has founded so-called Freeride E-Parks in several European countries – prepared indoor and outdoor tracks where people can gain first-hand experience with the E-bike. The super easy handling of the KTM FREERIDE E-SX, its low weight of only 106 kg and a relatively low seat height for an offroad sport bike make for a highly seductive proposition to enter motocross, or switch over completely to the electric bike.

KTM FREERIDE E-SM
With the KTM FREERIDE E-SM, KTM also launches a dedicated sportmotorcycle powered by electricity for urban areas in 2015.
After all, noise and pollution are problems not only for intact natural preserves but also for congested urban areas, which also suffer from a lack of road and parking space.
Which vehicle could be better suited to coping with the challenges of modern city traffic than the KTM FREERIDE E-SM? Minimal space requirements, the easiest handling, zero exhaust operation and near silent mobility mean it is predestined to become a solution to urban traffic problems. A modern concept, a cool design and amazing performance speak to the emotions, enriching the rational arguments with an incomparable riding experience
The KTM FREERIDE E-SM is a lot more than just an electric enduro with street tires. It is a completely new category of motorcycle, making possible zero-emission and nearly silent mobility over short distances and combining a contemporary lifestyle with a maximum of riding enjoyment.
It differs from the KTM FREERIDE E-XC, among others, in that it has smaller wheels with extremely sticky, nearly treadless rubber. It is also geared taller for higher speeds, and its suspension is specially tuned to its new purpose. A 300 V battery and brushless, permanent magnet synchronous motor with up to 16 kW of peak power result in a high performance powertrain. At a capacity of 2.6 kWh, the lithium-ion battery provides up to an hour of impressive E-power. An intelligent ECU perfectly matched to the complete package ensures that the machine’s spontaneous response remains easily controllable. A single gear is sufficient for the high torque motor, so you neither need to clutch nor shift.
At 11 kW of continuous power, the light, 110 kg KTM FREERIDE E-SM even complies with learner restrictions. The easy handling and a choice of three ride modes make it especially easy for beginners to try their hand at motorcycling. The powerful motor with the typical, burly thrust of an electric motor and up to 16 kW of peak power make the lightweight E-bike especially attractive for younger, aggressive urban and suburban riders. The KTM FREERIDE E-SM looks as great in front of a club as it does in the daily mayhem of the urban jungle. Supermoto reloaded for all who cherish maximum riding fun and want to combine the easiest handling, cool design and cutting- edge technology with their contemporary lifestyle while protecting the environment.
