TM Racing Australia’s Daniel McCoy has been ruled out of the upcoming rounds of the 2014 Monster Energy MX Nationals after suffering a back injury while testing over the Easter Long Weekend.
McCoy headed up to Coolum to contest the Queensland state motocross championship in an effort to further develop his TM MX 250 two stroke ahead of round three of the MX Nationals slated for this Sunday at Wonthaggi, Victoria.
Unfortunately McCoy bent a rear brake lever in the opening moto of the championships working his way through the field resulting in a DNF. A second DNF in race two left TM Racing re-assessing their options for the weekend, choosing to spend Sunday away from the race track continuing to develop McCoy’s race bike.
While the team was able to make some great progress with the bike and where excited with how testing was progressing, a crash in the afternoon left McCoy with a damaged L2, L3 and T12 in his vertebra that will sideline the New South Welshman for the next three rounds of National competition.
“Things were not going our way at the Queensland titles so we opted to head to a private track on Sunday to continue our testing,” McCoy explained. “Everything was looking good until a crash left me in a bit of discomfort!
“I damaged my L2 and L3 and have a wedge fracture in the T12. The injury is not too painful, more uncomfortable, but will require some rest for it to heal. At this stage I will be looking to return for round six at Swan Hill.’
“It is certainly a bummer, we have the bike going fast and things were looking good for Wontahggi.
“We will focus on the positives though, this is a long term plan and things are heading in the right direction. I will use the coming weeks to focus on the both the teams future plans and also my coaching schools.” McCoy added.
While McCoy will be absent from this weekends round of the MX Nationals, TM will still be very well represented with Joel Milesevic and Joel Evan’s both racing in the MX2 class.
Milesevic will line up aboard his EMU Racing TM MX 250 two stroke with the aim of climbing into the top ten overall after just missing out at Appin where he finished 11th.
Evans who showed some great pace himself at the Queensland championships aboard his Full Force Racing Components TM Machine will be looking to build on his top 20 result at the second round of the MX Nationals.
“There is no doubt last weekend was bitter sweet,” said TM Australia’s Andrew Franklin. “We certainly had no luck on track, however we made some great progress with the bike and are confident we now have an engine package that is as good if not better than anyone’s out there.
“It is a shame that Daniel is injured and will not be able to race the next few rounds, he has had some good results at the first couple of rounds and we were confident that they would continue to improve with the updates to the bike. We certainly look forward to seeing what he can do when he returns in the second half of the season.
“We wish both the Joel’s all the best this weekend, both riders showed some great speed at Coolum on the weekend and hopefully they can carry that to Wonthaggi this weekend.”
