Morgan Park confirmed for 2016 ASBK
Morgan Park – home of the second round of the 2015 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli, will again be a fixture on the calendar for the 2016 series.
Motorcycling Australia has today announced that the Queensland venue which thrilled riders, teams, officials and spectators alike this year, will be back as part of the 2016 Championship.
In April thousands of fans turned out to see strong grids across all categories, and the support and feedback from everyone involved made the decision to go back as a no-brainer.
Speaking about the news, President of the Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland Paul Dawson said his club was looking forward to hosting another round of the ASBK Championship.
“It’s a pleasure for us to be able to welcome the ASBK competitors back to Morgan Park, and to showcase the ASBK level of competition at Morgan Park Raceway,” he said.
“There are other venues in Queensland that national level motorcycle racing has run at, but Morgan Park Raceway presents so much more.
“It has a wide variety of corners, changes in elevation, the fact that not many people have been here in the past so it is fresh – certainly Morgan Park is universally praised by the riders for its layout and considered other tracks available in Queensland, it is definitely a favourite.”
Dawson also noted the importance that the local council and community -as well as his club, has played in ensuring the event is well supported, and looks forward to taking it to the next level in 2016.
“Sportsmen has had a very long-standing relationship with the track and we were instrumental in getting motorcycling road racing happening there in the first place,” he said.
“The Southern Downs Regional Council really get behind our events at Morgan Park, and the town just comes alive on race weekends – they all understand how much benefit that motorsport tourism brings to the local community and economy.
“We can learn from every event that we run, and we can always improve – we try to make every event better for our competitors. The lessons learned from the 2015 event will be used to move on and make the 2016 event even bigger and better.”
Motorcycling Australia CEO Dale Gilson, said that heading back to Morgan Park was a perfect fit for 2016 after the success of the round this year.
“Putting a calendar together for any Championship is actually a very difficult process – there are many factors at play that need significant consideration, including location, availability and dates to name a few,” he said.
“The feedback we received after the event was fantastic, and it was clear that the everyone involved was keen to come back and have another round run there.
“So we have managed to lock it in and with the riders, officials, club and local community on board, it should be a wonderful round of the series again in 2016!”
