AMA Arenacross Championship – Round 2 – Race to the Cup – Wichita, Kansas
AMSOIL Arenacross hosted the second round of the Race to the Ricky Carmichael Cup inside INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas for the first time since 2013. The constant back-and-forth action between Team Babbitt’s Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jacob Hayes and Rockford Fosgate TiLube Honda’s Chris Blose left fans on the edge of their seats while Ryan Breece showed race fans why he has the 1W plate by grabbing his third-consecutive overall Arenacross Lites win.
The first Main Event saw Blose take the holeshot with Hayes close behind in second. Hayes tipped in the sand turn on lap 4 and fell back to fourth, allowing Ryan Breece and Sportland 2 TZR Kawasaki’s Travis Sewell into second and third, respectively. Hayes slowly made his passes stick to retrieve his second-place position by the finish. Blose took the win, Hayes second and Sewell third.
The second Main Event saw Hayes take the holeshot with Blose close on his rear wheel. The duo continued this way with less than two seconds separating them. WCMC TZR Woodstock KTM’s Daniel Herrlein rode to a consistent third-place finish in the second Main Event. Only one point separates Blose and Hayes heading into Portland for Round 3 of the Race to the Ricky Carmichael Cup inside Veterans Memorial Arena on April 21.
The third round of the AX Lites West season started off with 2017 defending West Coast champion, Ryan Breece, taking the holeshot and leading all 15 laps to secure his third-consecutive AX Lites Main Event of the season. His teammate, GPF Babbitt’s Online rider, Isaac Teasdale, rode a consistent race to finish second and Plumbing Plus rider, Kevin Moranz, rounded out the top three.

GNCC – Round 4 – Steele City – Morganton, North Carolina
The 19th Annual FMF Steele Creek GNCC took place last weekend at the Steele Creek Park & Family Campground in Morganton, North Carolina and it was Thad Duvall and Kailub Russell who would battl head-to-head for three hours of racing before Duvall would ultimately make a last-lap pass and earn his first win of the season.
XC1: As the green flag flew, it was Canadian Kaven Benoit coming away with the $250 All Balls Racing XC1 Holeshot Award but it wasn’t long before K. Russell made the pass for the lead and took advantage of the clear trail ahead of him. Coming through timing and scoring on lap one, K. Russell checked in 24 seconds ahead of Duvall, followed by Ricky Russell and Trevor Bollinger.
Bollinger would make the pass on R. Russell during lap two and push forward, trying to make up time on the two frontrunners. However, coming through the finish, Bollinger remained at a three-minute deficit while Steward Baylor Jr. was also on the move behind Bollinger, coming in 54 seconds behind him.
Duvall would earn the lead on lap three as both he and K. Russell pitted for gas. Duvall was able to re-enter before K. Russell, and the two would continue their wheel-to-wheel battle until the white flag came out. K. Russell had regained the lead, but with just miles to go until the chequered flag came out, Duvall would make the pass and come through first, followed by K. Russell just seconds behind him.
Steele Creek fan favorite Bollinger would come through in third, earning his first podium finish of the season in front of his family and friends. S. Baylor would finish out the day with a fourth-place finish.
Beta USA’s Jordan Ashburn was running fifth during the first half of the three-hour race but Josh Strang would make the pass for fifth on the third lap. Strang would finish out the day fifth in XC1 and seventh overall.
Layne Michael, R. Russell and Jesse Groemm rounded out the top 10 in the XC1 Open Pro class.
XC2: When the XC2 250 Pro class took off it was the number 117 of Pascal Rauchenecker grabbing the $100 Hot Cams Holeshot Award but by the time they came through the finish on lap one it was Ben Kelley in the lead followed by Rauchenecker in second, and Josh Toth in third. Kelley took home his third consecutive win, while Toth and Rauchenecker rounded out the top three.
XC3: As the FMF XC3 125 Pro-Am class took off, it was Alex Teagarden with the $100 FMF Holeshot Award but Jason Raines would take over the number-one spot during the first lap. The number-one spot would then be taken over by Sherco-backed rider Jason Langenback for the next two laps before Christopher Venditti made the pass on lap four. Finally, Jesse Ansley would make the pass for the lead and take his second win of the season, followed by Venditti and Teagarden.
WXC: Becca Sheets has earned her first win of the season and stop the success of fellow WXC Tayla Jones after Sheets would start the day out in third, but battle throughout the course to move her way into the lead position on lap two and never look back to take the win over the Aussie duo of Jones would and Mackenzie Tricker.
