MX Nationals – Where have they been?
As the MX Nationals moves in to the final stages of the mid-season break, we took a brief look at the Monster MX1 class to see what a handful of riders have been up to over the last five weeks, and how things are looking ahead of round six of the series in Raymond Terrace.
Kirk Gibbs
Well, could this KTM backed superstar be in a more perfect position or what? Prior to the break, Gibbs shared that he would more than likely be sticking to his usual program during the five week break. After adding another feather to his cap by winning every single race at the Manjimup 15,000 in Western Australia, Gibbs has had a pretty much flawless start to his 2015 season. To top off his already stellar performances so far this season, Gibbs is rumored to be finishing out the final five rounds of the MX Nationals aboard KTM’s brand new 2016 model. With a 52 point lead heading into round six, Gibbs is not far off wrapping his first MX1 title up, and we couldn’t be more excited to see the whole thing unfold!
Dan Reardon
So, Reardon comes out of retirement, lands himself a factory ride with one of the best teams in the business with CDR Yamaha, clocks in some seriously impressive results over the first five rounds, and then heads over to the US to train for the second half of the season. Who would have thought though that while training during the five week break that Reardon would informally announce that he has his eyes on a career in the US for 2016. We just got you back, and now you want to leave again?! In all seriousness though, there’s nothing like returning to old stopping grounds to reignite the MX dream – and if Reardon is seriously considering a move overseas, he’s going to want to blow people’s minds over here, and absolutely smash his opponents over the next five rounds. Could Gibbsy have some competition when Dan returns? Time will tell.
Ford Dale
The man who always seems to be riddled with injury. I know the entire MX community feels for this guy, who continually seems to cop the nastiest injuries at the worst possible times. This year Ford has managed to keep the bike on two wheels but unfortunately results have not yet eventuated. During the break though, the Honda backed former MX2 Champ, has also headed over to the US to refresh not only the body, but the mind as well. Admitting to suffering from a huge amount of arm pump prior to the mid-season break, we’re tipping that if anything is going to kick it, it’s four weeks in the US and training with the likes of Gavin Faith. There’s no doubt at all that the sunny coast resident has the speed, but this trip may be just what is needed to put the final pieces of the puzzle together.
Dylan Long
Longy!!! After selling his car to just to go racing this year, the country Victorian fan favorite, has just landed himself with the opportunity of a lifetime. Getting a call up from NPS Monster Energy Kawasaki during the break, Dylan will now step in for injured Jake Moss for the remaining five rounds of the MX season. What is super cool about this whole situation is that Dylan is one of the youngest in the MX1 class, and has shown impressive results just as a privateer, can you imagine what this cheeky kid might be able to achieve with a factory bike between his legs? There’s no doubt that the entire fence line at Raymond Terrace is going to be flooded with spectators wondering whether or not this is the break Long needed to launch his professional career to the next level.
