Visiting Peter’s house with Phil Aynsley
Sometimes even a visit to a mate’s place can result in some worthwhile images. Assuming your mate is as a dedicated motorcyclist as Peter that is! With bikes in almost every room of his Maryland house, as well as filling the garage, it is obvious that he has a passion for Ducatis and MV Agustas, with the occasional Triumph or BMW for variety.
A single man (you might have guessed) he famously remarked that “… when the wife moved out, the bikes moved in…”. I took these shots during a trip to the US in 2010 and since then another three or four bikes have been acquired and restored…
One of his more interesting bikes is this un-started 1985 Ducati 750 F1 which Peter bought new in the crate back before the Cagiva takeover, when it was uncertain that Ducati would survive. He wanted a pristine example of what might have been the company’s final sporting model. To those who say that such a machine deserves to be ridden, his reply is “… that is a decision the next owner can make”.
Another is this prototype Ducati folding scooter. It was sent to the US importers, Berliners, for evaluation in 1964 and ended up being used for many years as a pit bike by noted race tuner Reno Leoni. Peter raced with Team Leoni for twelve years.

One of Peter’s recent restorations – a 1964 MV Agusta 150 Rapido Sport, photographed in 2014.
