Phillip Island to host 2009 World Superbike season opener
Australia will kick off the Superbike World Championship in 2009 with Phillip Island hosting the season’s opening round from Friday February 27 to Sunday March 1.
Bike fans the world over will be transfixed to the Victorian round as the world superbike teams launch their 2009 campaigns with new bikes, new rider line ups and new liveries unveiled at the island circuit.
Heading the entry list will be the kamikaze pilots of superbike’s world stage including Australia’s never-say-die Troy Corser, Japan’s samurai of slide Nori Haga and compatriot young hard charger Ryuichi Kiyonari, Italy’s Max Biaggi, Germany’s Max Neukirchner and Spain’s Carlos Checa and Fonsi Nieto.
World superbike promises, and always delivers, spectacular, razor close racing at the island, backed by the world supersport championship and four national classes.
On track action over three days is non stop and includes more than 15 races, plus the fierce sessions of qualifying and early practice to enthral fans.
