Raymond Roche – Ducati 888
With Phil Aynsley
Before I became a professional photographer I worked for Canon and thus had access to those lovely big white lenses. Also in those long ago days the requirements to obtain a photographer’s pass were somewhat more relaxed than is now the case…
This shot of Raymond Roche, taken at the 1989 Oran Park round of the WSBK Championship, is a favourite of mine. The unusual viewpoint and still stormy skies make for a striking image.
The Ducati Team hadn’t bothered to travel to the Australian and New Zealand rounds the previous year and as a result Marco Lucchinelli lost any chance he had of winning the inaugural championship.
Marco Lucchinelli was the team manager when the team finally arrived in 1989.
Raymond Roche finished 4th in Race One and 2nd in Race Two. He completed the season in 3rd place with a total of five wins.
