Remy Gardner takes a knock at Navarra
After qualifying on the second row for round six of the CEV Repsol at Navarra, Remy Gardner had high hopes of repeating his previous podium finish.
He got a good start from sixth, and quickly moved up with the leaders before a horrific high side crash on lap three finished his campaign. After loosing second place, he was sitting in third and getting ready to start fighting his way back, when he hit the gas a little too early into the corner and was catapulted off the bike. He was temporarily knocked out after hitting the ground, landing in the path of Gabriele Rodrigo, who had no time to swerve and ran over the top of Remy.
“Luckily I was knocked out for a few seconds and don’t remember being run over,” said a devastated Remy. “I just gassed it too early, and hit some dirt or something on the track and lost it. There were fourty or so riders coming right at me when I came to, and crawled off the track before getting hit again,” he added.
The race was red flagged and reduced to nine laps. Remy, who didn’t feel he had any real injuries was desperate to get back on the track for the re-start.
“I wanted that podium, and knew I could do it. I was completely prepared to get back to the grid for the re-start, but unfortunately the bike was damaged too much for the team to fix in the short time, and so I missed my chance.
“I want to say a huge thank you to NZI Helmets and Alpinestars because without their incredible protection today I’m sure I would have had big problems.
“Also, my trainer Edu who was with me all the way this weekend, and Randy and Dakota Mamola, who were both there for me when I needed to be reminded of how lucky I was.” said Remy.
After a complete check up at the local hospital Remy received the all clear, incredibly with just a sprained ankle and some bruises. “I’m really happy to have walked away from today pretty much unscathed, said Remy. I need twenty-four hours rest, and I’ll be back on my dirt bike training for the next race”.
A huge congratulations to Remy’s team mate, Nicolo Bulega, who finished third, and Jorge Navarro in second, with Fabio Quartararo in first place.
