The Swann Insurance Australasian Super Bike Championship (ASC) is about to click back into gear when the show heads to Mallala Motorsport Park for round two of the talent packed series on 16 – 18 May 2014.
With round one of the championship already turning heads within the Australian road-racing scene, the series will again fire up with the second round in South Australia set to get chins wagging.
For years Mallala Motorsport Park has been known as a track favourite amongst the road-racing industry, and after five long years away from the circuit the racers and teams could not be happier to be back.
Team Honda Racing rider Jamie Stauffer, who took round one honors in style at Wakefield Park, spoke openly about his excitement in heading back to Mallala.
“I obviously haven’t raced there since 2009, but I used to get some fairly good results there so I’m keen to get back and have another ride on the track,” he said.
“I’m not sure how much the track has changed since last time we were there, but it will be good to get back over there and check it all out again.
“Mallala is a nice technical track, and it’s fairly challenging. There’s a lot of tight corners, and off camber corners so it’s a bit of fun for everyone.
“Over the years I think I have learnt to adapt to most of the racetracks. I have always gone fairly well at Mallala so I’m hoping we can do the same at round two.”
For round one winner Stauffer, the opportunity to head back to Mallala could not come at a more fitting time, and feels that with some extra testing this week, that the South Australian round will be nothing short of exciting.
“The team and I are doing some testing this week. The first round at Wakefield we hadn’t had a lot of time on the bikes or tyres, so we have had a good chat about all of the stuff we are going to try and where we need to improve,” he said.
“We’re definitely going to try and use that extra testing as an advantage at this next round, so fingers crossed it pays off.
“I don’t feel any more pressure than usual. Whether you’re in the lead or not, it’s still early in the season so anything can happen. We just need to be consistent and get as many points on the board as we can.
“There were a lot of riders going quick at Wakefield, all the guys on Hondas seem to be going good at the moment. Hooky (Josh Hook) will be back at this round so he should do pretty well and provide some good competition so we are all looking forward to it.”
The Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship will resume for round two at Mallala Motorsport Park from May 16 – 18.
