I had to stop early in order to make some big changes to the bike, and when we restarted after lunch I felt more comfortable and put in better laps. We focused on the front end and were able to find a good set-up. Tomorrow we will focus on making progress with the rear, because we have to get the new tyre working better and increase grip. If all goes well, then perhaps tomorrow we will be able to do a race simulation.”

Alvaro Bautista (GO&FUN Honda Gresini): 1st, 2m 00.848s - “It’s been a very positive first day of testing! We worked very well on the rear end, an area that earlier this month gave us some problems. We have had excellent results thanks to Showa developing a new shock absorber, somewhat different compared to the one we’ve used so far, which is very suitable for our needs. In addition to the good lap times, even though the track was worse than the first test, I am especially pleased because my feeling with the new Bridgestone tyres has improved so much that now I feel comfortable when riding. We are on the right path: tomorrow morning we will continue to work hard, focusing also on the front end, while in the afternoon if we get the chance we would like to try a first long run.”

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda): 1st overall, 1m 59.533s “I’m pretty happy with how the three days here in Sepang have gone and we have started the preseason well. It's true that this is only the first test and we still have work to do, but we've already been able to do a race simulation and it has all gone well. We have tried many set-ups and we have gathered a lot of data, so we will be well prepared for the next test here. We still have some things to try out, so we must make the most of the days we have remaining here this preseason. Physically I feel good, I haven't stopped over this past month and have had a packed schedule, but I have been able to continue training. I was a little weak here when I arrived, because I had the flu last week, but in the end I felt fine which, is the most important thing. We can always improve and this test will help me to up my fitness.”

5th Nico Terol 1.35.715 (80 laps): "I'm happy. At the end of the day we have drawn some good conclusions, although at the beginning we had some problems with the new bike. We had some strange front chatter which we finally identified as a tyre issue and solved. I'm also happy because today I was aggressive with wind blowing through the track –conditions that usually I do not like. At the end of the day we completed several laps in the high 1’35s and I feel satisfied with the improvement from the first day. I feel very comfortable with the bike again, but surprises still appear, like today. Tomorrow we will continue working to try to improve our grip when cornering.”

2nd Jordi Torres 1.36.207 (41 laps): "This winter I worked hard to get ready and start the preseason at my peak. Last year Nico and I concluded the season very well and I think we are now doing a good job as well. We worked all day with the 2014 chassis and we were always high up the order. The feeling was good; the new bike is similar to last year’s, maybe a little more precise, in the sense that it is easier to get data from it. Although we are taking small steps forward, we are going in the right direction and that's the most important thing. Today it was very cold, so in general that’s why we weren’t faster. The aim was to check that everything was in its right place. The plan for the rest of the days is to try to get the bike to corner better at full lean. Last week we found a good feeling when entering corners. Now it's a matter of improving when exiting them to gain time."
