Thailand to join MotoGP Calendar from 2018 – Contract to be signed August 31st
Thailand is poised to join the MotoGP calendar from 2018, with contracts to be signed in Bangkok on Thursday, August 31st.
Sakon Wannapong, the Governor of Sport Authority of Thailand, and Carmelo Ezpeleta, Dorna Sports CEO, are set to sign the contract on Thursday, in a ceremony in Bangkok chaired by his excellency General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand.
Pongpanu Svetarundra, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, will also be in attendance for the historic occasion.
Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta will fly to Bangkok this week to finalise and sign the contract, with the Grand Prix to be held in Buriram from 2018 until 2020.
History of Buriram Circuit
The Chang International Circuit of Buriramc was opened in 2014 and became the first FIA Grade 1 and FIM Grade A circuit in Thailand.
On March 22 2015, the first ever Thailand round of the World Superbike Championship was held at the circuit, proving a great success and was followed in March 2016 by the second Thailand round of the World Superbike Championship.
On March 11 2017, the third Thailand round of the World SuperBike Championship took place, further paving the way for further international racing.
