Vic’ Tri-Region Challenge postponed – By Kendall Jennings
Victoria’s Annual Tri-Region Challenge run by Motorcycling Victorian Motocross Management Committee (MVMX) held at the State Motorcycling Centre at Bradford in the center south east of the state scheduled for this weekend (February 1-2, 2014), has been postponed due to forecast very high fire danger periods.
As well as conditions for rider safety there also concerns about the amount of water that would have to be placed onto the motocross circuit to reduce dust. Champions Ride Days held a ride day at the Broadford Motocross Circuit on Monday and the track has been reported as brilliant and great holding up well in the heat, with the track improvements being completed over the summer.
“MV MX are extremely disappointed to announce that this weekend’s Tri-Region MX Challenge has had to be postponed in the interest of rider, officials, flaggies, volunteers and spectator safety.
“Whilst entries for the event have been well received, MVMX have considered the extreme temperatures predicted for the weekend, and all indications point towards a Total Fire Ban Day on both days. It is MVMX’s duty of care to all riders and interested parties of the event that the event is held in safe and enjoyable conditions for all concerned.
“These predictions mean that not only do the riders need to be well hydrated but we also need to ensure that the track is ‘hydrated’ regularly both prior and during the event to ensure that track conditions are considered safe. As riders are aware extreme heat cannot only cause rider fatigue possible heat exhaustion but also track fatigue.
“Whilst some may not agree with this decision it is made in consultation with many parties with over 200 riders and associated spectators taken into consideration.
“All riders’ entries will be credited back to their cloud entries account for use within the MV MX Victorian Championship. Should this not be acceptable to some riders they are to email [email protected] and a refund will be forwarded in the mail.
“This event is only postponed and will be rescheduled to another date.” Motorcycling Victoria.
