Australian Chad Reed has commenced his 2008 AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, campaign in sensational style, winning the opening round of the 17 round series at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium.
After winning his heat convincingly, Reed was third into the first corner of the Main Event and moved quickly past race leader Grant Langston on the same lap. A small mishap just moment’s later, allowed Langston to regain the lead but the Australian was back in control of the race by Lap 4.
Reed pulled away consistently over the next 16 laps before taking the chequered flag over 21 seconds ahead of reigning Supercross Champion, James Stewart.
Reed was the class of the field in the extremely muddy conditions and showed a noted return to form as he took his fourth Supercross victory at Angel Stadium.
“I have been thinking about this race since last May,” said Reed. “I knew I needed a good start tonight and had to fight.”
“It was a tough track out there, but we were well prepared and this win shows that hard work pays off.”
Reed also confirmed what many industry insiders had speculated that he was back to his best and ready for another championship win.
“I am fit, feel fantastic and our development of the new bike is coming along really well. Bring on Phoenix I say!” added Reed.
Reed and his L&M/San Manual/Yamaha team will now prepare for the second round of the championship which will be held on Saturday 12th January at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
